BILL NOBLE PARK

A Night to Honor Those Who Serve Us

Built on Community and Thriving

(Gardendale, Ala.) August 19, 2024– On Tuesday, August 6th, the City of Gardendale, Dollar Tree, and Bill Noble Park came together for a night rooted in community and honoring those first responders that serve and protect the Gardendale citizens, Gardendale’s first National Night Out.

“As Chief of Police, I am excited for us to start this community partnership. This is a great way for public safety and the community to enhance the relationship in a positive outcome” said Gardendale Chief of Police Scott Banks.

During the event multiple first responders were present from Medical Care Flight Units to Gardendale Police Department Tactical Unit and even the Jefferson County Sheriff’s bomb squad and k-9 units. The City of Gardendale Mayor and City Council were grilling hotdogs and passing them out to attendees to not only give them a free dinner but to connect with community members. What better way to build trust and a sense of community than with a free hotdog dinner and interacting with families.

Gardendale City Council President Alvin Currington said “there were lots of families from the community that came out to show support, we served up a lot of hotdogs, and everyone seemed to have a great time.”

Attendees got to interact with the different local first responders and learn about the different equipment and vehicles that are used to serve and protect the City of Gardendale. “Anytime that we are able to come together as a community and show the men and women that serve our community that we appreciate them is always a good day. They protect us and it is important for us as a community to let them know that we have their back” said Gardendale Mayor Stan Hogeland.

“We hope that the community enjoyed coming out and meeting all of our local first responders and thank you to the Mayor City Council for recognizing those that work to serve our community each day” said Lieutenant Marshall with the Gardendale Fire Department.

These types of events help bridge the gap between the community and its first responders, “it is very important for citizens to see us as regular people to while seeing the tools we use every day to serve and protect…talking to people and helping with any gaps of communication in hope to change the perspective of law enforcement with the community is always at the forefront of these events,” said Henry Irby, Public Information Officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Gardendale Police came out in full swing with their Detectives, Tactical Teams, Swat Units and Patrol Vehicles. Patrol Officer Celena McCarty stated that “Tonight at the City of Gardendale’s National Night Out, it was a rewarding experience to meet and interact with the citizens in which we serve every day. It was an opportunity, not only to interact with, but also educate the citizens about Police and Fire. I am excited to continue my service to the City of Gardendale and its citizens.”

“National Night Out gives us the opportunity to talk with the people around our city in a no-stress environment. It’s a chance for us to let them know we are here if they ever need us and more importantly it’s a great time for us to strengthen the relationship between us and the citizens we serve…This year we had a great turn out and I look forward to it again next year,” said Lieutenant Brad Cotton of the Gardendale Police Department.

“Bill Noble Park is based on community and hosting these types of events give us a chance to interact with our local community that might not be involved in one of our sports programs” said Caeley Guthrie, Marketing & Customer Relations Manager.
